This project is part of a larger vision I have of documenting my childhood and early adulthood for the sake of providing a history for my children. When we think of memoirs and diaries, we tend to think of aged books with faded ink revealing the details of a past. In this digital age, I want to explore other means of personal documentation using technologies that will be familiar to the next generation.
For this particular segment of my personal histories, I had planned to use the hypertext program StorySpace. As McLuhan says, the medium is the message. In this case, I had wanted it to be temporally complementary. However, being of a frugal mind, I found StorySpace to be a little out of my budget. I went in search of a replacement and found VoodooPad. It's cheaper, works on the same principles, and will work with today's technologies.
From 1984 to 1988, I lived in the coastal town of Astoria Oregon. During that period, I changed residences at least seven times due to different situations and circumstances. It was a period where I was on my own for the first time in my life and this biographical narrative attempts to reveal what took place during that time of discovery, both successes and failures.
